o In a June 24, 2005, response to a thread on the website SportBike World, Josh Hicks (posting under the name sindic) wrote, “Here’s the main problem I see. Cops are people just like you. They work a job because they like the excitement, or they like to help people. They have opinions and are prone to respond just like you would to disrespect. I’ve not met even ONE in several years experience that took the job just to fuck with people. Unfortunately, when you hold an opinion like that, often you will make your presumption self-fulfilling through your actions. If I see obvious disdain on your face when I walk up to your car for a traffic violation, a smirk, or a bad attitude from you, don’t expect the kid glove treatment from me. I give respect as it’s given to me.
“I don’t like being told that I’m ‘just fucking with people’ because I was ordered as a part of my duty to do traffic enforcement in a particular section of town. If you’re a computer programmer, and your boss tells you to code something specific, you code it. If I’m told to stay in a particular section of town and enforce traffic violations, I will. Of course, I don’t even stop unless it’s 15mph over, unless there’s something else unsafe going on. But I have to do my job, or risk being fired.”[1]
